PayPal President David Marcus reprimanded employees at its San Jose, California headquarters through a memo for not installing the PayPal app and not recalling their passwords, VentureBeat reported.
The report quoted what Marcus wrote in the email which was seen by VentureBeat, "It's been brought to my attention that when testing paying with mobile at Cafe 17 last week, some of you refused to install the PayPal app (!!?!?!!), and others didn't even remember their PayPal password. That's unacceptable to me, and the rest of my team, everyone at PayPal should use our products where available. That's the only way we can make them better, and better."
Marcus also scolded his employees in San Jose for lagging behind its other offices in the number of leads they give showing businesses that don't accept PayPal as a payment platform. Marcus said, "PayPal It, our program enabling you to refer businesses that don't accept PayPal has seen the least amount of leads in *absolute* and relative terms vis-a-vis ALL other locations."
San Jose employees were apparently not doing enough hacking for Marcus who also said in the email, "Employees in other offices hack into Coke machines to make them accept PayPal because they feel passionately about using PayPal everywhere. I don't see these behaviors here in San Jose." This seemed ironic in light of Marcus taking to micro-blogging site Twitter to reveal that his credit card got hacked, the report said.
A PayPal spokesman who talked to VentureBeat said Marcus has been telling employees these things for some time now. The spokesman also added that since becoming president nearly two years before, Marcus has been striving to make PayPal move in a different direction in terms of having a shared office environment and developing products faster, the report said.
Marcus closed his email by giving his employees a choice, "In closing, if you are one of the folks who refused to install the PayPal app or if you can't remember your PayPal password, do yourself a favor, go find something that will connect with your heart and mind elsewhere."
