This week, a lot of WhatsApp users had suffered from chain letter hoax. This was after the recent acquisition of social media giant Facebook of the messenger app for smartphones last February 19 and a major outrage on its server on Saturday night. The chain letter hoax was the latest among the series of hoaxes that has plagued the messenger app since its creation.
The users of WhatsApp had been getting complicated messages that claimed to be from the app founder, David D. Suretech. However, the real founders of the messenger app are Brian Acton and Jan Koum. The spam messages sent claimed that the app would soon charge 37 cents for those who remain to be inactive users of WhatsApp. In addition, the spam message said that the only way to count yourself as an "active" user is to pass the message to 10 other app users.
On the other hand, the WhatsApp website indicated that the messenger app was free on the first year. However, the company would charge its users 99 cents annually after the milestone.
