Last month, Rashard Mendenhall hinted that he was battling a decision to retire from NFL. This was after playing the last season with the Arizona Cardinals. A tweet from Mendenhall’s agent, Mike McCartney, was sent out last Sunday confirming the NFL’s star decision.
The tweet read, “@R_Mendenhall is retiring from the NFL. Rashard will explain why in his own words very soon. Stay tuned,” affirming earlier reports on Mendenhall’s retirement.
Meanwhile, Mendenhall explained his early retirement decision on an article posted last Sunday on The Huffington Post.
Mendenhall wrote, "I've always been a professional. But I am not an entertainer. I never have been. Playing that role was never easy for me. The box deemed for professional athletes is a very small box. My wings spread a lot further than the acceptable athletic stereotypes and conformity was never a strong point of mine."
Coach Bruce Arians plans to make Mendenhall’s backfield mate Andre Ellington the Cardinal’s focal point offense. This was after the announcement of Mendenhall’s retirement.
