Hashtag #sxsw went viral on social media platform Twitter following the announcement of this year's festival winners. Fort Tilden and The Great Invisible bagged the top prizes for this year’s SXSW Film Festival, reported Variety. The comedy film Fort Tilden was directed by Sarah Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers. Fort Tilden won the grand jury prize for while The Great Invisible, an oil spill expose by Margaret Brown, took home honors for the best documentary feature.
Fort Tilden was awarded via unanimous decision, said Oliver Platt who presented the award. Director Sarah Violet Bliss said while accepting the award, “Sitting in that chair for the last half-hour was the best workout I could have had. My heart is pounding so fast.”
The award for The Great Invisible was accepted by Brown together with her crew onstage. Brown said, “This was a three-and-a-half year effort. She also thanked the film community “for watching a lot of really bad rough cuts.”
