New York City is currently confronted with a measles outbreak following 16 identified cases of the highly contagious diseases. The outbreak has already resulted six hospitalizations. People who had not been vaccinated are warned to get their shots done.
Aside from New York, other places around the US had to cope with the measles outbreak. Health officials had identified Boston, San Diego, Dallas and San Francisco to have cases of the infectious diseases. Back in 2000, the US had been declared measles free as cases were once so rare. Meanwhile, the infectious disease has also been reported to flock Connecticut and Illinois.
The possibility of getting measles spread in a community poses public threat. This is after the disease can be passed on quickly. It is also airborne that can be passed once an individual sneezes or coughs. Last month, thousands of California commuters were exposed to the disease after an unvaccinated man rode public transportation carrying the disease.
