YouTube, a social media video platform, receives more than 6 billion hours of videos watched every month. This proves that the video site is beating another social media giant, Facebook. Due to this large number of audience, mainly teenagers, Google has been looking to reach a much younger audience.
Social video site YouTube was reported to have been developing a new kid-friendly site. This would feature programs for children who are below 10 years old. Currently, YouTube runs safety measures that block inappropriate content. However, it isn’t 100% accurate. Once the new site is developed, safer viewing would be guaranteed to those of the much younger age group.
Host Lamarr Wilson discussed the plan via YouTube Weekly. Having a YouTube site designed for kids 10 and below would assure parents that their children are only watching appropriate videos, Lamarr commented. Currently, YouTube has a safety mode switch at the bottom of the site which could be turned on that would block videos flagged by users as inappropriate.
