A zoo in Copenhagen has recently prompted international outrage from animal activists after it killed a healthy giraffe and dissected it in public. Another unlikely event has transpired which had the Danish zoo kill two lions and two cubs to make way for a new male, reported The Guardian.
According to a statement from the Copenhagen zoo, they had to euthanize the two old lions and two younger lions. This was after the zoo would put in a new male lion for two female lionesses that were on breeding stage. The younger lions were taken down after zoo authorities say they will not be able to defend themselves once the new male gets in the pride.
On Monday, the four lions were euthanized after the Copenhagen zoo failed to find a new home for the huge cats. This was according to the zoo’s spokesman who added all four were from the same family. The spokesman said, this time there was no public dissection as "not all our animals are dissected in front of an audience".
The zoo’s CEO Steffen Straede said, "The zoo is recognised worldwide for our work with lions, and I am proud that one of the zoo's own brood now forms the centre of a new pride of lions."
