North Korea men are now required to get the same hairstyle as their leader Kim Jong-un. This was according to a BBC News report. Two weeks ago, the new state-sanction guidelines were introduced in Pyongyang. Although some people have reservations in getting the “Kim Jong-un” hairstyle, the mandate is now being rolled out all over North Korea, media reports said.
According to a source who told Radio Free Asia, "Our leader's haircut is very particular, if you will. It doesn't always go with everyone since everyone has different face and head shapes." On the other hand, a North Korean now living in China said people at home think that the look resembled Chinese smugglers. According to the former NK resident told Korea Times, "Until the mid-2000s, we called it the 'Chinese smuggler haircut'.”
There are only 18 hairstyles for women and 10 for men that are allowed in North Korea. The country has also launched a TV ad against long hair calling citizens to, “trim our hair in accordance with the Socialist lifestyle".
