General Motors had stopped the sales of some Chevrolet Cruze cars. The reason behind the halt was not revealed by the US car company, reported BBC News. The sales of the car models having 1.4 liter turbo engines were mandated to be stopped.
BBC also asked GM to comment whether the halt also applied to the sales of Chevrolet cars outside the United States. The sales halt received a lot of criticisms after GM recently recalled1.6 million cars. According to reports, company workers were already aware as early as 2004 regarding the defective ignition switches that caused the recall.
The switches on the recalled vehicles were found out to be defective after failing to be turned off and disable airbags. The issue was already linked to 12 deaths, said a BBC News report. However, GM disputed the number of deaths linked to the defective ignition switches problem.
GM also delayed the recall which has ignited two congressional reviews against the US car maker.
