@ColbertReport ignited anger from Twitter users who read the tweet they have labeled racist in nature. The tweet was deleted after prompting digital outburst. The deleted tweet read, “I am willing to show #Asian community I care by introducing the Ching-Chong Ding-Dong foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever.”
The tweet immediately gained numerous reactions including Suey Park’s, a young activist, leading her to create hashtag #CancelColbert. The hashtag went viral on Twitter and was also Park’s way to stir up the tweet against the late night satirist.
After it went trending, The Colbert Report responded to the angry tweets explaining in more than one hundred forty characters. It read, “For the record @ColbertReport is not controlled by Stephen Colbert or his show. He is @StephenAtHome Sorry for the confusion #CancelColbert.”
However, the tweet did not seem to appease followers and Twitter users alike as it did not read like an apology. Instead, users only realized that Stephen Colbert was not the man behind the previous tweet that ignited anger among users.
