Samsung has been releasing multiple variants of its flagship handsets throughout the years. It should come as no surprise when the reports about the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini started surfacing. According to recent information, the South Korean tech giant plans to release a Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini in May. The device should feature similar components like the Samsung Galaxy S5 including water and dust resistant capabilities.
According to an exclusive by SamMobile, the website has confirmed the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini. Samsung has an affinity for bringing in multiple variants of its flagship models to appeal to different types of the market.
SamMobile insiders leaked information about the S5 mini's specs. The device sports a model number SM-G800. According to the insiders, the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini will come with a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display offering up to 720p resolution, Android 4.4 KitKat and a Snapdragon processor. There are no details about the chipset but analysts believe Samsung will likely go for a quad-core Snapdragon 400.
Other reported features include: 2,100 mAh battery, 8MP primary camera, 2MP front camera, an IR blaster, 16GB storage and 1.5GB of RAM. The specs are similar to the Galaxy S4 mini. The Samsung Galaxy S5 mini is also expected to be water-resistant thanks to the IP67 certification. There are no details yet if Samsung will include a fingerprint sensor and heart rate monitor like in the original Galaxy S5.
Samsung has not revealed any information about the exact release date or pricing. Analysts believe the S5 Mini edition is just around the corner, perhaps a May release. Aside from the release of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini, Samsung has also released a promotional video of a Samsung Galaxy S5 Crystal edition. The new variant is under the partnership of the tech giant and Swarovski. The two companies have teamed up before for bejeweled editions of Samsung products.
