Chinese state media released a statement confirming acts of terror during the Wednesday bombing at the Urumqi South Railway Station where 3 people died and 79 others were wounded.
The explosion in Urumqi marks the first attack in Xinjiang’s capital since 1997.
Among the suspects killed in the bombing incident was identified as Sedirdin Sawut, a 39 year old Asku resident, reported Xinhua. The other suspect was left unnamed but Xinhua disclosed that the two had been involving in religious extremist acts.
No other details regarding the persons’ identities were revealed including previous activities although a probe is still onprocess.
Aside from setting bombs in the site, the two were also alleged of stabbing civilians using knives. No record data of injuries were disclosed due to the stabbing incident. It was also not revealed if the suspects were suicide bombers.
President Xi Jinping has ordered to strengthen counterterrorism efforts in response to the attack. Xi said, “The battle to combat violence and terrorism will not allow even a moment of slackness, and decisive actions must be taken to resolutely suppress the terrorists’ rampant momentum.”
