A SEC filing showed today that Bill Gates has sold 4.6 million shares he owned in Microsoft which lowered his holdings while ex-CEO Steve Ballmer owns more shares than him.
Bill Gates holds 330,141,164 shares in Microsoft while Steve Ballmer has 333,252,990 holdings in the company.
In January, Gregg Keizer of ComputerWorld wrote, “At his 10-year pace of selling stock, Gates will hand over the shareholding crown to Ballmer before mid-2014. Gates will have exhausted his holdings by September 2018 unless he stops or slows his selling.”
This made Keizer’s forecast true as Ballmer now holds more shares than Gates within the predicted timeline.
Meanwhile, another interesting thing to watch out for at Microsoft is how the new chief executive Satya Nadella would be able toa acquire accumulated stock in the tech giant. Nadella’s net worth could already reach a nine-figure in the first half decade he would be in-charge of the company. This would be in addition to his about $20 million annual salary which comprises largely of shares.
