Harvard Student Invents 3D Makeup Printer, Makeup is Just a Few Clicks Away in the Future

The makeup industry may have found its match through Harvard Business School student Grace Choi. According to recent information, Choi found a way to replicate beauty products through a 3D makeup printer. The technology, when extended to the consumer market, can potentially help people save a lot of money by manufacturing their own makeup. What does this mean for the makeup industry?

Grace Choice was studying at Harvard Business School when she came up with idea that can potentially change the shift for the beauty industry. According to a report by Business Insider, Choi conducted a research that allowed her to examine how beauty companies or brands create their products. Likewise, the research showed Choi how brands mark up incrementally in their products simply by just combining different color pigments.

"The makeup industry makes a whole lot of money on a whole lot of bulls---," Choi explained at the TechCrunch Disrupt this week.

"They charge a huge premium on something that tech provides for free. That one thing is color." She added.

Choi's research revolved around using color printers. More importantly, Choi's research noted that makeup companies use a similar ink as with color printers. People or almost everyone has access to color printers. If people knew the process to printing makeup colors then they create makeup products. Choi also added that the ink used in these color printers has FDA approval.

To demonstrate the rationale of her research, Choi developed a mini home 3Dprinter called Mink. The Harvard student will offer the 3D printer for $300. The printer will be available to anyone who wishes to print their own makeup palettes. Anyone can print through the device by obtaining the color code of the makeup they want. People can distinguish the color code off the internet through programs like Photoshop.
