Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference received mixed reactions. The company just introduced its iOS 8 and a number of new services. However, despite the attention over Apple's software platforms, the iPhone 6 remains a hot topic. According to reports, it is one of the most anticipated launches of the year - perhaps the biggest yet for Apple. The release of the device marks the company's entry into the phablet arena and other categories.
Throughout Apple's releases, the company has stuck to a number of reliable timelines. For instance, the company previously picked June for its releases then moved to October before sticking to September. Analysts believe the iPhone 6 will be released around September as well. According to PC Advisor, Apple's release timeline can be summarized as such:
- iPhone 1st gen June, 2007
- iPhone 3G July, 2008
- iPhone 3GS June, 2009
- iPhone 4 June, 2010
- iPhone 4s October, 2011
- iPhone 5 September, 2012
- iPhone 5s/5c September, 2013
As noted in countless reports, there will be two variants of the iPhone 6: 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch. Other features to be expected are heart rate Earpods, A8 processor, iOS 8 and new internal memory up to 128GB.
Forbes also reported about Apple getting patent cleared for use of sapphire glass materials with liquidmetal. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted Apple a patent about a special construction process integrating liquidmetal with sapphire glass materials to produce more durable or shock-proof displays. The process features a metal injection process using liquidmetal.
Apple has not released an official announcement about the final features of the iPhone 6. Features may still change and other patents may not find their way to the device. The release of the iPhone 6 will also pit against Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 to be released around the same time. September will be a battleground for two of tech's biggest rivals.
