An ancient herb promises anti-aging properties that can preserve a person's more youthful look.
The herb is called gotu kola or Indian pennywort. It is also known for other names such as spade leaf, brahmi and centella asiatica. Despite being discovered many years ago, it is only recently did researches find its anti-aging capabilities.
What makes it ideal to fight years on a person's face? Centella asiatica, more popularly called as centella, comes with beta carotene, amino acids, fatty acids as well as a number of potent phytochemicals. The herb's extracts have been associated with faster wound healing, better circulation and more production of collagen. It is also related to inflammation relief and improved cell growth.
Just recently, according to a report by Forbes, a new study about the herb, researcher found out about its skin rejuvenation and wound-healing abilities. The herb can inspire a new range of skin treatments. Centella Asiatic has a long history of use in medicine. The plant's use has been traced by to prehistoric men. Also recognized in as gotu kola in Chinese Medicine, the herb has been considered as among the "miracle elixirs of life." It has also been mentioned in legends saying that a famous sage was able to live up to 200 years old because of it.
According to the Indian Journal of Medicine, gotu kola can also be considered a "potential herbal cure-all." Likewise, Phytomedicine also published the following about the plant: "Centella asiatica has been subjected to quite extensive experimental and clinical investigations."
