The Miss USA crown had recently been given to Miss Nevada Nia Sanchez.

The the 63rd Miss USA pageant was held on Sunday (June 8) at the Baton Rouge River Center. A total of 51 contestants representing each state (and the District of Columbia) competed for the crown.

Sanchez, who was crowned by Miss Universe 2013 Erin Brady, was born on February 16, 1990 in Sacramento, California. She's the first ever winner from Nevada.

The 24-year-old is more than a pretty face. She is an ex-tae kwon do teacher and a martial arts champion. When asked if she needed any pageant protection, she replied: "I appreciate the security we have. But I feel confident."

Some interesting facts about Sanchez: She is the face of a Disney character in Hong Kong Disneyland. She is also well-traveled--working as a Nanny in Europe after her high school graduation, and has been to over 10 countries like Austria, Mexico, Switzerland, and Thailand.

When asked about why the increasing rate of sexual assaults in college campuses are being swept under the rug, Sanchez told judge Rumer Willis that women should know how to defend themselves.

She added that she has volunteered at women's shelters, teaching kids about these kinds of attacks. "I relate to them on a personal level because I've been there myself," she added.

The other winners are as follows:

First runner-up: Miss North Dakota Audra Mari
Second runner-up: Miss Georgia Tiana Griggs
Third runner-up: Miss Louisiana Brittany Guidry
Fourth runner-up: Miss Florida Brittany Oldehoff
Fifth runner-up: Miss Iowa Carlyn Bradarich

The Miss USA pageant is owned by real estate tycoon Donald Trump. The other judges in this year's pageant include musician Lance Bass, and NBA player Karl Malone.

Sanchez will represent the United States at Miss Universe 2014.
