Comedian Kristen Wiig will soon make her directorial debut with "Bridesmaids" co-writer Annie Mumolo.
The duo will reportedly write, produce, and star in the still-untitled movie, which will be about the story of "best friends who find themselves in over their heads and out of their depths, which were, perhaps, not too deep to begin with."
The two women are the brains behind the hilarious 2011 critically and commercially successful comedy "Bridesmaids," which was nominated for an Original Screenplay Oscar, and grossed $288 million worldwide on a $32 million budget.
Wiig and Mumolo released a statement saying that they are very excited for the upcoming project, with Wiig adding that after wanting to direct for a while now, this is the perfect debut.
"We will be going into a cave for months to finish. An actual cave. We found one that's nice and big. We're putting a couch in there," they said.
Both women have been very busy, with back-to-back TV and movie projects. Mumolo's most recent projects include writing for the biopic "Joy," and being part of the cast of film "This is 40" and NBC TV series "About a Boy." Wiig, on the other hand, has most recently appeared in "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" with Ben Stiller, and will soon appear in "The Skeleton Twins" and "Nasty Baby."
The film will be under TriStar. "Kristen and Annie assured me that the film will be a searing and depressing drama, which is what the world needs right now," said Thomas E. Rothman, the company's chairman.
More info will surely come out in the coming months so keep your eyes pseeled!
