"The Fault In Our Stars" and "Divergent" star Shailene Woodley is speculated to be the reason behind the delayed release of "The Amazing Spider-Man 3."
Woodley talked about her Spider-Man 2 cut in Vanity Fair: "For a few hours it was literally like, 'Oh, my God, was I awful? Why did they cut me? What are people going to think?'"
"I woke up the next morning and I was like, 'O.K., it makes total sense.' I'm a pretty spiritual person, so I can just sit back and trust that everything happens for a reason, even if my ego doesn't like it," she added.
The star will be showing up on "Insurgent" next year and its continuation, the filming of the two parts of "Allegiant". The "Divergent" sequels may be serving as barriers for Shailene to commit herself to another action film.
"I don't know anything, but seeing as how they picked up the next two 'Divergent' films, I don't know how I would keep my sanity with two big action films in one year," Woodley quoted by Fashion and Style earlier this year. "But anything can happen."
After Gwen's death, how will the love story be established this time?
Producers cut Woodley from Spiderman 2 because they wanted to expose more of Gwen-Peter love story. "Of course I'm bummed," Woodley was quoted on Hollywood Reporter. "But I'm a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason. ... Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film." Could this be the answer?
After the successes of her past films, it is possible that the the producers will pull her back. The Amazing Spider-Man's director, Jeremy Webb admires her acting skills.
From the reports of LA Times, Webb was quoted, "Shailene is a brilliant actress, and she did a great couple days of work."
"But it was very difficult to introduce someone as a competing love interest when so much is on the table with Peter and Gwen."
"The Amazing Spider-Man 3" will be released on 2017.
