Angie Martinez, New York City's, voice of hip hop, has recently announced her resignation from Hot 79.

In a statement, 43-year-old Martinez said: Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever."

She added: "This was one of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways. Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly....the listeners... for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show. Stay tuned."

Rumors are going around that Martinez's resignation could be transferring to Power 105, Hot 79's competitor.

Power 105 has not commented on the issue.

Hot 79 also released a statement confirming the resignation, thanking Martinez for her two decades of service. "We thank her deeply for her commitment to Hip Hop, radio, and broadcasting."

Ebro Darden, Martinez's friend and co-worker, said his goodbyes via Twitter: "Angie, I love you and gave my life to protect you. This is a great opportunity to extend your brand!! Get that $$ ... @angiemartinez"

Martinez started working with the radio station in 1996, first working with Funkmaster Flex, and then shortly having her own show--"The Afternoon Drive"--where she'd been working ever since, interviewing all of the biggest names in hip hop.
