Users can now install the Mac OS X Yosemite Beta on iMac and MacBook. Users have to follow several instructions to take advantage of the platform.
Getting Started: Ensure that you have sufficient disk space for another OS installation. Make sure that you have at least 256 GB of total disk space, otherwise it won't be recommendable to do this. Also make sure that you have enough free disk space, at least 50 GB.
Step 1: Download OS X Mavericks at https://developer.apple.com/. There will be a redemption code that will be given by Apple, which can be used in the Mac App Store.
Step 2: Start the download in the Purchases tab on the Mac App Store. The download may take some time. Wait until it finishes.
Step 3: Once the download is complete, users should access the "Install OS X 10.10 Developer Preview.app" file inside the applications folder.
Step 4: Launch the Disk Utility application
Step 5: You should see Macintosh HD in the list of items on the left side. There will be two Macintosh HD options. Choose the first one.
Step 6: Click the Partition tab. There will be a "+" sign under the Partition Layout section that you should click. After clicking the "+," a Macintosh HD 2 partition will be shown. This partition can be resized using the drag handle in between.
Step 7: Resize the drag handle so that the Macintosh HD 2 partition has enough space (at least 50 GB is recommended).
Step 8: Change the name of Macintosh HD 2 to Yosemite HD, since we're installing Yosemite.
Step 9: Click Apply, found at the lower right hand side. Proceed to click the Partition button to continue.
Step 10: Launch the "Install OS X 10.10 Developer Preview.app" to begin the installation.
Step 11: Follow the instructions and proceed to install Yosemite as you would any other application by agreeing to the terms and conditions, as well as clicking continue. DO NOT FORGET to install Yosemite on the "Yosemite HD" partition, not Macintosh HD.
Step 12: The installation will begin. Please plug into a power source, so that the computer will not shut down in the middle of the installation.
