2014 NBA Trade Rumors: Rajon Rondo to Indiana Pacers

By

Rajon Rondo's future with the Boston Celtics is uncertain as he enters the final year of a five-year, $55 million contract, thanks heavily to Boston's myriad of problems. The franchise is expected to explore the free agency market and make a move on big names like Kevin Love and Carmelo Anthony with valuable assets in two first round draft picks and attractive contracts of big men Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk and future picks.

The possible scenario, however, is that the team may be forced to part ways with premier point guard if they fail to land a star this offseason. The Boston Celtics front office recognize Rondo's desire for change but they may not be able to provide him with a championship caliber team in the coming season considering the stiff competition for stars in this summer's free agency. Rondo wants to be competing for NBA championships and does not want to be part of another rebuilding season.

"Hopefully this summer we're going to make some big changes," said Rondo on Good Morning America. "Get the ball rolling and get back to the Finals pretty soon. I know Danny Ainge is doing his job, and I'm going to go out every summer and do my job and get better."

Their are rumors that the Indiana Pacers are looking to make a move on the Celtics point guard if they miss out on Stephenson. While Indiana Pacers big man Roy Hibbert's poor outing can be pointed out as the main reason for the Pacer's late season slide and defeat to the Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals, George Hill was not at his best either. Its not yet clear however, how Indiana plans to bring in the Celtics star to the franchise but if the Pacers are looking to improve the point guard position, then they could be forced to pull the trigger on Rondo.

It also makes sense for both teams as Indiana would be able to provide Rondo with a championship caliber team that he needs with a rising star in Paul George and a proven veteran in David west. The pacers will also benefit from Rondo's leadership and court vision - something that they lack for years now with their awfully poor ball rotation.
