Why Is R. Kelly Serenading Carmelo Anthony? (Video)

By

R. Kelly will do whatever it takes for Chicago, and his Bulls. Real talk.

Carmelo Anthony recently opted out of his final year with the New York Knicks in favor of free agency. Along with Lebron James, Anthony represents one of the two most coveted free agents in professional basketball. R. Kelly has an idea where he should end up.

After his Chicago Summer Jam 2014 performance (surprise, he killed it), Kelly gave an extremely intimate interview to 107.5's Tony Sco and Nina Chantele.

Chantele asked Kelly about recent reports that his daughter, Jaya Kelly, has come out as a transsexual via Instagram. While Kelly didn't deny it, he didn't come out and say it was true either. Mostly he spoke about adult responsibilities, loving his children, and believing what you see with your eyes, not what you hear.

As if the interview couldn't get any more intense, Sco and Chantele brought up Carmelo Anthony's recent free agency, and rumors that coach Tom Thibodeau has reached out in hopes of bringing Melo to Chicago. They could barely ask Kelly if he'd like to see Anthony in Chicago Bulls uniform before he interrupted:

"I gotta cut you off...I would love to see Melo in a Chicago Bulls uniform."

Kelly was nowhere near finished, getting down on one knee to declare his love for Melo, then beg and croon for his arrival. He even offered White Castle.

Go to the seven-minute mark of the video to see the improvisational genius that is R. Kelly give Carmelo Anthony the business. Out of the thin, windy Chicago air he's able to compose a beautiful ballad in the hopes of landing the second most valuable NBA free agent.

R. Kelly also discussed Chicago's violence problem, and gave some valuable advice to the city: put the guns, knives and hating down. Kelly also suggested that celebrities put actions behind their anti-violence words, and actually walk through Chicago neighborhoods espousing a message of peace. It was a thoughtful, compassionate suggestion that with any luck will be followed not only in Chicago, but the world all over.

Despite these serious societal problems, it's the Carmelo Anthony song that will be remembered forever.

"Melooooo, you gotta come to Chicagoooooooo yeah," never sounded so good.
