Blade Runner, Oscar Pistorius faced the trial court today fighting against allegations thrown at him for shooting ex-girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day of 2013.
The trial was delayed due to the reports of Pistorius' psychiatric issues. Judge Thokozile Matilde Masipa resumed everything today inclusive of the conclusions and arguments regarding his case.
According to the reports from ABC News prior to the trial, health experts suggested the Olympian was not mentally ill on the date of incident - that will literally affect on the defense of Oscar. "The finding is not good for the defense," criminal defense attorney Anton Smith said.
In addition, Smith pushed the reasoning of "neither in terms of their [Pistorius'] strategy, as they tried to illustrate a possible diminished culpability, nor in terms of a possible factor once they start arguing in mitigation of sentence." This only means the possibility of losing on the case gets higher.
During the trial, Prosecutor Gerrie Nel concludes the suspect is "capable of appreciating the wrongfulness of his act". Nel believes Pistorius was conscious of his actions and there was no reasonable explanation to defend it.
Pistorius was reported to be gazing still on Nel as he speaks.
Meanwhile, Barry Roux (acting as the defendant of the alleged suspect) summoned the doctor who assisted and treated Oscar when he was 11 months old. On the said crime, he was on his stumps when he shot Steenkamp.
Dr. Gerry Versfeld pointed out Pistorius' inability to walk straight without falling and he believed his client unable to maintain balance in the dark. Moreover, the scenario Versfeld said was reenacted and demonstrated; which showed Pistorius falling on his stumps.
Nel, abruptly testified that the demonstration and theories delivered weren't enough to prove his instabilities. "You said he often falls. Do you know that on that particular night he never fell? Did you not ask him what happened that night?" he proved as quoted on the same site.
"The most amazing thing is he walked from his bedroom, with a gun in his hand to the bathroom. He fired four shots and he was on his stumps and it was all in the dark."
Afterwards (according to an ESPN report based on The Associated Press), another point coming from Pistorius' side explaining Steenkamp wasn't the one screaming and the notes they've heard were from the shooter as he was shocked after killing his ex-girlfriend.
Two couples were asked upon this matter, and both have heard screams; the first couple living furthest can't put assurance whether it was a male or female scream, and the second couple heard it clearly.
The trial is may be watched from a livestream.
Verdict will be set to be delivered this July. If found guilty, Pistorius will be facing 25 years of sentence; and is charged of several gun possessions and public shooting.
