Robert Downey Jr. Claims Son May Have "Genetic Component to Addiction" After Drug Arrest

By

It's been more than a few years since Robert Downey Jr. hit rock bottom, and in the time since he's vaulted back up into being one of the most successul actors currently working in Hollywood.

Unfortunately, Downey's son Indio may be mimicking the career path of his father.

Indio Downey was arrested on Sunday for cocaine possession, reports the New York Daily News. It seems police officers saw Downey smoking a pipe while in the passenger seat of a car, and was pulled over for a search.

The search soon revealed a bag of cocaine in Downey's possession, which was cause for his arrest.

The older Downey made a statement to the Daily News, shortly after his son was released on bail:

"Unfortunately there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it. Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we're all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being. We're grateful to the Sheriff's department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale."

Sadly, this is not Indio Downey's first run-in with drugs. Last year, he was taken to a holistic treatment center after having an issue with prescription medication. Statements at the time indicated that Indio Downey's issues with medication were not serious, but issues with cocaine are undoubtedly more so.

Like his father, Downey is an actor, and will appear in the upcoming thriller "Run for Roxanne," with Jason Mewes. He is also an accomplished musician, as a part of the rock group The Seems. The Seems recently signed a deal with Warner Bros.

Hopefully, with the help of his father behind him, Downey can get through these issues and continue with his career. His father, meanwhile, is set to star in "The Judge," this year, and will portray Iron Man once more in next year's "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
