Jennifer Love-Hewitt has officially joined the cast of CBS hit crime drama "Criminal Minds."

The 35-year-old actress is joining the cast starting its 10th season, playing former undercover FBI agent Kate Callahan, who joins the Behavioral Analysis Unit.

"We're thrilled to introduce a new special agent by adding the very talented Jennifer Love Hewitt to our amazing cast. Many of us on the show have enjoyed working with her over the years and look forward to again. We have exciting storylines planned for her character and the entire BAU team as we head into our 10th season," said showrunner Erica Messer in a statement.

Hewitt, who starred in the CBS show "The Ghost Whisperer" for five seasons, will be joining the "Criminal Minds" stars A.J. Cook, Thomas Gibson, Matthew Gray Gubler, Joe Mantegna, Shemar Moore, and Kristen Vangsness.

The casting announcement was made about two months after Jeanne Tripplehorn's (Alex Blake) departure in the season finale. Hewitt has also just finished two seasons of "The Client List," a Lifetime show that she also produced.

Cook, who plays Jennifer Jareau, said in an earlier interview that season 10 is "going to be a big season."

Asked about her thoughts on the season 9 finale which aired in May, Messer said that no one is safe: "This [episode] has that urgency to it and that you can really trust no one, and you feel that."

The 10th season of "Criminal Minds" will air on October 1, Wednesday, at 9pm.

Are you excited that Hewitt is now on board the hit show? Do you think that she'll be able to fill in the void that Tripplehorn left behind?
