iPhone 6 Release Confirmed with ‘Touch on Display,’ Thinnest Build and Fresh Backlight

By

Apple has reportedly started mass production for its upcoming hardware cycles to be released this September. Supply chain sources and industry observers provided more information and insight recently on what the iPhone 6 will be like. According to recent tips and leaks, the iPhone 6 will feature a new backlight technology for thinner build along with "touch on display." Can Apple create a formidable player?

According to Nikkei sources, previous mockups of the iPhone 6 were interpreted differently. There were details noted that people should not expect from the iPhone 6. Sources note that people can expect much better design than previously discussed in the dummies. More importantly, the 4.7-inch surfaced once more offering a closer look at the curved glass.

The latest images, mockups and schematics also suggest that Apple could be releasing the thinnest iPhone model yet. The iPhone 6's side profile will be around 6.1mm or similar to the dimensions of the iPod touch. According to a report by G for Games, Chinese supply chain sources said that while Apple may be able to pull off a thin design it may encounter yield problems. There are certain risks associated with transforming handsets into thinner devices.

According to China Times, Apple will still be using brightness enhancement film (BEF) although this time it will stick to just one layer over two. One layer of BEF in the LCD display will allow the tech giant to create a thinner form factor. However, analysts think that unless Apple found a way to develop higher performing BEF then it can cause problems to the device. One layer will compensate for the absence of the other putting more loads to it. The tech giant has contracted OMRON and Radian for additional production support to Minebea.

Another interesting feature making waves around is the "touch on display." However, sources say that Apple may not go for the feature on the iPhone 6 sticking to the standard in-cell technology. The company has extended partnership to LG, Sharp and JDI.
