'Criminal Minds' Season 10 Spoiler: Jennifer Love Hewitt to Join; Jane Lynch Possible to Return

By

Criminal Minds is set to return on October 1 for its tenth season and the producers have a surprise for their viewers. A new FBI agent will be joining the team with female actor Jennifer Love Hewitt playing the part.

Hewitt, who has been the lead character in "Ghost Whisperer," is no stranger to television series, and she also has some cred to her name when it comes to acting in movies. She was recently nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television at the Golden Globes for her role in "The Client List."

"Criminal Minds" showrunner and executive producer Erica Meeser keeps the new character under wraps as she only revealed that Hewitt will be playing the role of Kate Callahan, who previously worked for the FBI as an undercover agent. She might be a replacement for the show’s Alex Blake, who left at the end of the last season.

As a part of the Behavioral Analysis Unit, Hewitt will be taking down criminals along with the mainstays. She has been announced as a regular cast member and according to execs, they have exciting storylines planned for her and the team.

A.J. Cook (Jennifer Jareau), also hinted that the finale of season 9 will have a big impact on how things go in season 10. With the cast back together to start filming, Joe Mantegna (David Rossi) revealed that he will be directing episodes of the show like he did in previous seasons.

This is Hewitt’s first acting gig after giving birth in November and marrying Brian Hallisay. As for some plots left in season 9, Messer hints that they will be addressed in season 10. Cook, Mantegna, Matthew Gray Gubler, Thomas Gibson, Shemar Moore, and Kirsten Vangness will all reprise their roles. A possible replacement for Jeanne Tripplehorn will be discussed, while Jane Lynch could possibly return.
