"The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies," the third and final installment of the Hobbit movies, is set to come out in December. Read on for updates.
Warner Brothers has recently released the movie's official synopsis. Here's an excerpt published by The One Ring: "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town."
The major cast members who will be reprising their roles include Ian McKellen (Gandalf the Grey), Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins), and Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield).
It has also been confirmed that director/co-writer Peter Jackson will be presenting the movie in this year's San Diego Comic Con. He will be joined in Hall H by George Miller, who will present "Mad Max: Fury Road," which is also under Warner Bros. Pictures. Fans will also get a peek at "Jupiter Ascending," The Wachowskis' upcoming sci-fi action movie.

Jackson said that there will be a teaser trailer for the movie, but this will not be released until around October.
"The complex VFX work requires to produce the battle shots we're all wanting to see are simply not far enough along yet," Jackson said. "However... yesterday I finished work on a Teaser Trailer and that has just been delivered to Warner Bros. So no doubt this Teaser Trailer will be making it's way into the world sometime soon."
"The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies" will hit theaters in the United States on December 17, 2014.
