The fifth and final season of hit HBO crime and period drama "Boardwalk Empire" will return this fall. Here are the things that we know about it so far.
A short teaser video ("One is the Loneliest Number") which is about 40 seconds long, has recently been released by HBO. In the video, we see shots of Nucky Thomson (played by Steve Buscemi), and some appearances by Al Capone and Nelson Van Alden. A cover of "One" by Harry Nilsson plays in the background.
"All empires fall," says the end of the trailer.
In an interview Michael K. Williams, who plays Chalky White, hinted to fans that there will be an interesting angle this season: "The storyline has jumped seven years [into the future], which is why I have the beard now. The Depression has set in. The days of the shiny shoes and fancy suits are long gone," Williams told Den of Geek.
Last season was particularly dark for Chalky--aside from losing his family, his rivalry with Dr. Narcisse (Jeffrey Wright) is getting more and more serious.
In an interview with TV Line, creator Terence Winter said working with Wright has been a dream of his for years. "He's an amazing actor and a terrific guy. And then adding Michael to the equation... putting those guys opposite each other was like putting two electric wires together and watching the sparks fly. It was just magic," he said.
Winter has also confirmed that Wright will be back in the upcoming season.
No date has been released yet, but "Boardwalk Empire" is expected to return sometime in Fall 2014. Cannot wait for the new season? Visit the official HBO site and be educated with its "Gangster's Guide to Staying on Top: 6 Rules to Live by the Boardwalk."
