iPhone 6 to Dominate Markets as Apple Remains Dominant Over the High-End/$500 Market

By

Apple will continue to dominate the high end market including the $500-dollar smartphone sector as recent research shows its strong hold. Despite the information about Android and Samsung gaining big market shares in a variety of smartphone markets, Apple remains a formidable player in the high-end sector. In fact, analysts continue to see its dominance especially with the release of the iPhone 6. The iPhone 6 5.5-inch version will drive sales and encourage replacement cycle for Apple unlike any other.

According to the study by comScore, Apple accounted for 41.9% of the smartphones based on three-month coverage. The company' share went up based from the 41.3% three-month record last February. This is positive news for Apple and its investors. The United States remains Apple's most successful market with earnings bigger than any other region. In fact, The Motley Fool reports that 31% of Apple's total revenue came from the US alone.

Although Samsung may have been gaining ground with its high-end Galaxy product line, Apple shows no signs of giving up its position soon. Apple even dominated in China's $500 and above smartphone market. Around 27% of smartphones in China range around $500 and up. Around 80% of these handsets are iPhones. Apple also remains superior in Japan. Apple iPhones account for 51.7% of the devices shipped in the last three months concluding in Many. Insight director Dominic Sunnebo discuses why Apple remains top in the region:

"Japan's love affair with Apple shows no sign of fading. Even though the iPhone has now been available on Japan's largest carrier, NTT DoCoMo, for a number of months Apple still accounts for more than 40% of sales on the network. The success of the iPhone is also filtering through to the iPad, with almost a quarter of Japanese iPhone owners also owning an iPad. With smartphone penetration in Japan lagging well behind Europe and the US, Japan will remain a key growth market for Apple."
