Andreessen Horowitz, Google Ventures top Pitchbook list of actve venture capitals in America

The venture capital industry is gaining notoriety in recent years, thanks to the various initial public offerings and fundraising campaigns launched by some of the biggest and up-and-coming companies. Forbes noted that Facebook debuted at a market valuation then of $104 billion on the stock market in May 2012, which was the biggest so far for an Internet company.

With this, Entrepreneur.com released its list of the Top 100 of the most active venture companies in the US for 2013. This list is based on the data gathered by PitchBook, utilizing a time-tested research process that starts with a daily systematic review of countless numbers of news and public filing sources aimed to inform eager investors about their investment choices.

Below are five of the leading venture capital companies in the US:

1. Andreessen Horowitz. This four-billion-dollar capital firm was first founded in 2009 by Marc Andreesseen and Ben Horowitz. Both founders have been active investors in technology companies. The company has invested on various start-ups such as Twitter. At present, they already have 82 deals with sum invested amounting to over $600 million.

2. New Enterprise Associates (NEA). This global venture capital firm is an expert in spreading their investment risk on a variety of investments. NEA has invested from seed-stage start-ups up to growth-stage companies in dire need of fresh capital. The company is already branching out in different fields of industry such as health care, information technology and energy technology, with investments totaling $13 billion.

3.Google Ventures. This is among the most popular venture capital firms in the country. As the investment arm of the Google Inc., it provides seed venture and growth-stage funding to technology companies. It operates independently from its mother company, and makes financially-driven investment decisions. They are into investing in startup companies in various fields within the technology field - Internet, hardware, software, cleantech, health care and biotechnology.

4. Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB). KPCB is a venture capital firm based in Menlo Park in Silicon Valley. Several publications like The Wall Street Journal and other print media called this company as one of the largest and most established venture capital companies in the United States. Since establishment, the company has already closed 34 deals summing up to over $500 million.

5. Lightspeed Venture Partners. This venture capital firm focuses on early and expansion-stage investments in small-scale businesses. They have backed more than 200 companies such as DoubleClick, Brocade, Nicira and Pliant Technology.
