Religion is almost always equated to belief systems and behaviors of large congregations of people, rituals, sermons and commemoration of the god that the followers believe in. It has worked as people's compass for what is moral, right, and acceptable behavior. Many of the religions in the world attempt to explain the source of the world - the creation of everything in it - and the place or the state where one will be after death. Different religions also have different ways of explaining the meaning of life and on how one should live it in order to attain its highest form of fulfillment. For some people, however, their religions serve as the laws which they follow governing them in all their actions on how to love their lives to the fullest.

Many religions in the world have common characteristics, where its followers believe in a god, or a creator, or a supernatural being who is the source of everything. As of 2012, around 59% of the world population have religions, while, 36% who are non religious. 13% are considered atheists, who do not believe at all in deities.

5. Sikhism

Sikhism originated in India and was founded over 500 years ago. Today, it has a follower of over 20 million people in the world. According to sikhs.org, it "preaches a message of Devotion and remembrance of God at all times, truthful living, equality of mankind and denounces superstitions and blind rituals."
