The Moto G packs power to its punch, making it a powerful handset for its price. But like any other handset, it comes with its own set of minor issues. The good news is most of these issues are easy to troubleshoot, and they come with DIY fixes.
Below are some of the common issues users encounter with the Moto G, and effective fixes that can easily be done by any user.
Battery Calibration
The Moto G's battery meter reportedly jumps from being near-full to being almost drained. This is a battery calibration issue, a common handset problem not exclusive to the Moto G, and can be easily fixed. Drain the battery completely and charge it undisturbed for four hours without turning it on - this will successfully recalibrate the battery.
Frozen Screen / Random Startups
These two problems come as a single item because one usually comes with the other. There are two ways to fix this: a temporary fix, which involves the user doing a soft reboot by holding down the power button for a few seconds, or a more permanent fix, to be discussed shortly.
The permanent fix can be done two ways: by restarting the phone in safe mode and finding and fixing the application issues causing the problem, and by returning the phone to its factory settings. To enter safe mode, press the start button until the startup logo appears, and then press the menu button down until the lock screen appears. The screen should display a Safe Mode label if done successfully. Users then have to find the application causing the error and try to fix it - a time-consuming task that offers permanent results. Begin troubleshooting with the latest app installed for easier tracking and referencing during the trial and error process.
A faster way is to restore the phone to factory settings. Backup all the contents of the phone onto cloud storage, select Factory Data Reset in the Settings > Backup and Restore menu, and import the backup once the reset is done.
