“Happy New Year” to Be Released on October 23; Movie Uses Innovative Promotional Strategies through Social Media

The filming of the highly anticipated Bollywood film, "Happy New Year" recently wrapped up, as fans look forward to seeing it on the big screen this coming October. The movie is using innovative means for its promotion, giving fans a chance to catch a glimpse of the movie, Fashion & Style reports.

Cast Shahrukh Khan and his director friend, Farah Khan recently invited their Twitter followers to tweet using the hashtag "'Happy New Year' trailer." According to them, fans should tweet such in order to receive a sneak peak of the movie.

Shahrukh's tweet reads, "Dil Churane Aa rahe hain #Indiawaale... Tweet with @HNY & #HNYTrailer and I will personally send you the trailer of #HappyNewYear."

Director Farah also invited her followers by tweeting, "Send me a Tweet with @HNY & #HNYTrailer and I will personally send you the trailer of #HappyNewYear."

Fans can also use WhatsApp to watch "Happy New Year" trailer through their mobile devices starting August 14.

Venky Mysore, CEO of Red Chillies Entertainment which is behind the movie, said, "As a company, there is a special focus on constantly improving fan experience through innovation."

"Whether it was the first look of the movie at the beginning of the year through one of the biggest Twitter innovations with fans receiving customized posters from their favorite artists, which received close to a billion impressions as a campaign, or the new innovations with WhatsApp & Twitter for the upcoming movie - 'Happy New Year,' our endeavor is to delight the fans," Mysore continued.

According to reports, this is the first time a Bollywood film is releasing its trailer via WhatsApp, making a huge leap in the movie industry. Mysore highlighted that there are over 50 million active users of WhatsApp making it a good platform for promotion.

The movie's promotion strategies through social media seem to be working well for the film. The movie's official poster has already gone viral on the internet while the hashtags started trending nationwide, after Shahrukh and Farah's invitation.

Described as "a rollicking, flamboyant, colorful, witty, action-packed musical bonanza," the movie also stars Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, and Sonu Sood. The film is scheduled for release in October 23.
