Theo James had no qualms kissing on-screen girlfriend Shailene Woodley for "Divergent." This is apparently because the actor went at kissing "hard" and wanted to practice as much as possible.
According to Entertainment Wise, the "Divergent" DVD included clips of the actors promoting the movie, and apparently "all Theo could talk about was kissing Shai." His answers are in response to questions throw his way, but James appeared "only too happy" to address the kiss with Woodley, which didn't go much in denying rumors about the two dating in real life.
Despite confirmation that James is still with his off-screen girlfriend, the James-Woodley on-screen chemistry does not wane. In fact, James seems eager to improve the chemistry even further, with him wanting to practice kissing the actor behind Tris Prior. Enstarz quotes James: "I just wanted to practice the kissing scene with Shai as much as possible. I'd say 'Listen, after dinner we could just go over that scene again.'"
Entertainment Wise also says that James referred to Miles Teller's "hissing noises" in the background of their shoot to have "added to the sexuality" of the kiss.
Also according to the actor who plays Four, "The kissing scene with Shai and I, we wanted that to be as good as possible." He also admitted that they had to shoot the scene a second time "because the first time it didn't feel right."
Apparently, the 29-year old actor "went at it hard" because she thought Woodley wanted it that way, shares Fashion & Style. The article also adds James saying, "I thought to assuage any awkwardness I would just go for it."
In James' own words, Four and Tris' relationship is "functional, tough," and intricate, which Woodley seems to agree on. James wanted the scene to be real and "not just lots of cheese," which isn't too far from how Woodley imagines her character to be. Woodley apparently looks at cheesy lines and says, "Tris would never say that."
James and Woodley have been rumored as a couple off-screen, and Woodley have also been linked with several other celebrities. According to Classicalite, Woodley apparently needed some coaching from Zoe Kravitz about "the spirit of the genre" and how actors are constantly paired up by rumors to their on-screen partners.
As for "Insurgent," Breathe Cast says production is ongoing and will wrap up possibly at the end of the year. The second installment will come to theaters March 20, 2015.
