After reuniting with LeBron James and acquiring Kevin Love in a block buster trade deal this summer, the Cleveland Cavaliers have have gone from lottery bound to kings of the NBA. They clearly had the best offseason of any team and are now armed with a formidable roster that threatens to shaken the heirarchy of power not only in the Eas but in the entire NBA. And apparently, they are not done yet. They are still amassing players that would further improve their chances of bringing home the NBA title. Now the Cavs have set their sights on a big man on the rise in Timofey Mozgov per ESPN's Brian Windhorst in a radio interview:
Windhorst reveals that the Cavaliers have been pushing a trade with the Denver Nuggest for Moggov for the last six or eight weeks. They clearly like what they see in the Nuggest big man after spending more than a month of trade discussions but unfortunately don't have the assets that would force Denver to pull the trigger on a trade deal. Here is what James Herbert of CBS Sports has to say:
Of course the Cavs would want Mozgov. He's 7-foot-1 and skilled, coming off by far the best season of his career. It would be tricky to work out a deal, though. Mozgov is making $4.65 million this coming season and he has a $4.95 million team option the year after that. The Nuggets don't really have any reason to dump him for a package of say, Brendan Haywood and Cleveland's several unguaranteed contracts
Mozgov played for Cavaliers head coach David Blatt on the Russian national team. Blatt revealed to a Russian outlet ITAR-TASS a fews ago that the Cavs attempted to bring him in but simply isn't just possible for the time being via Sports.ru's Alexander Chernykh.
Timofey Mozgov has everything that the Cavs need. He has the size and skill set that would give them a big body down low and is familiar with Blatt's sytem. He is also a rim protector and could very much take over the starting center duties if Anderson Varejao continues to struggle with injuries. Unfortunately for the Cavs, they just don't have the right assets to force Denver's hand on a trade deal for Mozgov.
