The upcoming Super Smash Bros has been making headlines for the past few weeks with leaks showing new and unrevealed characters. While some leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, new information suggests that Nintendo 3DS Direct will be releasing in Japan starting Friday.
WiiUDaily reports that Nintendo Europe and Nintendo America have not announced anything.
While the market waits for the next release, here are some interesting Nintendo trivia to celebrate the game's three decades of existence.
1. According to BGR, Super Mario's dinosaur friend, nicknamed "Yoshi," has an actual full name: T. YoshisaurMunchakoopas.
2. Mario was actually born in Brooklyn.
3. Diskun, also known as Mr. Disk, a cross-eyed yellow character that symbolized the Famicom Disk System, was the original mascot of Nintendo. When it failed, they changed it and came up with the more popular Mario.
4. The first appearance of Luigi was not in Mario Bros. Arcade Game. Luigi's first-ever appearance was in Mario Bros. Game & Watch.
5. Back in the day when the United States was not too fond of advertising alcohol, they censored the game Super Mario Kart. They US version cut the part where the winner takes a celebratory pose with a champagne bottle on hand.
6. Kirby and Super Smash Bros. have the same creator. His name is Masahiro Sakurai.
7. There is one Pokemon game that was never officially released in Japan. It is called Pokemon Puzzle League.
8. According to Games Radar, Nintendo started from playing cards. To pay homage to its roots, the company is currently offering traditional Hanafuda cards through its Club Nintendo Customer Service.
9. Through its GameCube game console, Nintendo introduced the electronic conga drum to the public.
10. Nintendo actually created two gorilla games in 1981. Due to the immense popularity of the 1981 release, Donkey Kong, nobody really paid attention to the other gorilla game, Sky Skipper.
