"Uncharted 4: A Thief's End", the upcoming action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation 4 and to be published by Sony Computer Entertainment, is scheduled to hit the shelves in 2015.
The title of the game and a 2015 release window were officially revealed via trailer at Sony's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) press conference in June 2014, IGN reports.
Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, directors of "The Last of Us", lead the project following the departure from the studio of Amy Hennig, the series writer and creative director, and Justin Richmond, game director of "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception" and "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End." Hennig and Richmond, according to reports by IGN, joined Visceral Games and Riot Games, respectively.
The development for the next installment in the series was announced when Naughty Dog released on November 14, 2013, the eve of PlayStation 4's release in North America, a teaser trailer of for the then untitled "Uncharted" game.
The teaser was dotted with clues, according to PlayStation Magazine and the Sixth Axis, and suggested pirates could be included in the game. The trailer shows an early map of Africa while a voice over can be heard. The map stops at Madagascar and Île Sainte-Marie is marked (which alludes to English navigator Sir Francis Drake, as Île Sainte-Marie was part of his travel route.) A Latin phrase is written around a drawing of a skull and crossbones: "Hodie Mecum Eris In Paradiso", quoted from Luke 23:43, which translates to "Today shalt thou be with me in paradise".
The plot of "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" will take place several years after the events of 2011's "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception". Protagonist Nathan Drake, who retired as fortune hunter, will "embark on a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure", Naughty Dog outlined. "His greatest adventure will test his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he's willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves."
