Rovio Entertainment has sort of moved on from its sucess in "Angry Birds." Based on Google Play figures, the spinoff app game "Angry Birds Stella" has been downloaded over a million times, and has been given an average of 4.5 stars by over 93,000 people who have reviewed the app so far.
The Droid Guy said that the game, which is available on Google Play for free download and with in-app purchases made available to those who are interested, features the same physics-centered mechanics as its predecessors, but with an improved feature. Kotaku said that the charm of "Angry Birds Stella" was due to the fact that Rovio has successfully developed genuine characters with personalities due to the early marketing strategy for the game.
Several published reports, such as those from The Guardian, noted that the game was originally marketed for female casual gamers. The game has a female (and pink) main character, three female friends, a female arch-enemy, and the tagline "Best friends forever - most of the time." However, Rovio quickly changed this approach into a more all-encompassing one, with chief managing officer Bianca Juti being quoted by the British newspaper as saying, "Just as I hope people don't think Star Wars is for boys, I hope they don't say this is just for the girls."
Although the company has yet to see if this latest "Angry Birds" release will improve the numbers this 2014, it is clear that Rovio is hoping to cash in more from the success of its original "Anrgy Birds." Rovio's revenues from the Angry Birds franchise has only risen by 2.5% in 2013.
Meanwhile, fans of the Angry Birds franchise will see "Angry Birds Stella" outside their mobile devices real soon. The Droid Guy said that Rovio has teamed up with Toons TV to create a miniseries of "Angry Birds Stella." The story will revolve around the game's main storyline, which is the protagonist saving her friends from her arch-enemy, the evil queen.
