New Google Android 5.0 L Details Emerge as with October 16 Release

By

According to a report by Phone Arena, an image leaked by @EMTLeaks shows a screen capture of the GFXBench application off of the new Nexus phone. The image shows the name of the new Nexus' operating system to be "Android 5.0 (Lion)." Their report warns readers that previous leaks from the said source have been unreliable, but the image still made news headlines. PC Advisor reports that rumors of Google's repeat partnership with Nestle came out the same time as this image.

None of the Rumors Confirmed by Google

Google has not confirmed any of the rumors, merely calling it the "Android L release," but different rumors have emerged since news of its development first came out. TK Tech News reports that Android L will be the operating system's version 5.0, not 4.5, and that it will be called Android Lemon Meringue Pie. PC Advisor points out that other reports refer to Android L as Android Lollipop. This, according to Latin Post, is more in keeping with Google's tradition of naming their Android OS after desserts and similar sweets.

If true, this is the second time Google will be partnering with Nestle to release a version of their Android OS. The latest version of Android, Android KitKat, was named after one of Nestle's most recognizable chocolate treats. While no exact release date has been released, PC Advisor reports that in the I/O Convention, Google announced it will be released in autumn.

Upcoming Features

According to Expert Reviews, Google's Android L also marks the company's major leap from its previous mobile OS platform. According to Google, the Android L system will be compatible with older devices thus creating a more uniform ecosystem. Its Material Design feature wills a more intuitive interface. Other features to expect include 64-bit support, personalised Unlocking mode and headline notifications.

Recent reports note that the platform may be released around October 16.
