Miami Heat star Chris Bosh is beginning to understand how much offensive freedom he will be granted by coach Eric Spoelstra once the season begins. He is already excited to being the new go to guy in the Heat's offense now that LeBron James is no longer with the team and Jared Zwerlin of Bleaher Report reveals that Bosh will have five more shot attempts every game in the coming season according to his trainer Miles Simon:
The bottom line: less jump-shooting and more attack moves. Simon predicts that as the main weapon, the 11-year veteran will get about five more shot attempts (up from 12.1 last season) and about five more free-throw attempts (up from 3.4, the lowest in his career) than he did last season.
LeBron was also the Heat's No.1 weapon in the post and now that his gone Bosh is expected to go back to his days with the Toronto Raptors where he was very effective in the low post.
"I had to play a role," Bosh said at an appearance at a Warren Henry Auto Group event in Kendall per Sun Sentinel. "I had to play the role for the championships. I feel that I'm back to doing what comes naturally for me, which is being back in the post, being more aggressive. I'm really excited to show the city of Miami what I have."
Bosh averaged 32 minutes a game - a career low - last season as the third option in the Heat offense behind LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. This coming season, he intends to play between 36 and 39 minutes per contest which means that his scoring output will be expected to increase.
With a bigger role, more minutes, and a Miami Heat squad who will lean on him every game, Chris Bosh will surely see his scoring average increase from 16.2 last season to 23 points or so this coming season as the team's No.1 scoring option.
