Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’ Goes Google Interactive; Experience the Film in Unique Preview Starting Today

"Interstellar" gets a promotional boost as Paramount Pictures announced Friday that it partnered with Google to bring viewers a digital hub with which they can gain access to additional content about the science fiction film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Called the Interstellar Space Hub, it brings film contents from various Google platforms, including the Google+ social network, Google Play digital store, YouTube and Google for Education. Also included in the hub are a function for purchasing movie tickets, an interactive content discovery called Space Hunt (requires WebGL to run), and links to a Solar System app available for download.

"Having the power of Google behind our efforts to inform the audience and enhance their experience of Interstellar is an exciting new development in the relationship between filmmakers and audiences," said Emma Thomas, "Interstellar" producer and wife of Christopher Nolan. "Google has provided the ultimate hub for the theatrical experience, and now, for the first time ever, there is a mechanism for audiences to give direct feedback to the studio about the quality of the technical presentation."

The Hollywood Reporter added that Google will also collaborate with Paramount to put together a short film called "The Time Capsule Project" from gathered user-generated content. It will be available early next year. Furthermore, the cast will join a live Google + Hangout session, and Google for Education will offer its Interstellar-themed lesson plans by the middle of October.

Meanwhile, Variety reported that Paramount also partnered with IMAX to offer a unique preview of the film in a traveling exhibit with Oculus Rift, an upcoming virtual reality head-mounted display being developed by Oculus VR. Beginning today, the exhibit will travel to New York City, Houston, Los Angeles and Chantilly, Virginia to provide fans an immersive sneak peek.

According to Paramount and IMAX, participants will be able to use the Oculus Rifts to experience zero gravity in the film's Endurance spacecraft. The exhibits are free in all four cities.

On October 1, Paramount Pictures announced in its press release that "Interstellar" will have a limited release in North America on November 5, 2014, and a nationwide release two days later on November 7, 2014. For the limited release, it will be out in 70 mm and 35 mm film formats in theaters that still project the formats, including IMAX theaters with 70 mm film projection. It will expand to theaters that will project the film in digital format for the wide release. Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. will distribute the film in North America and other territories, respectively.

"Interstellar" is an upcoming film about a team of explorers and scientists who embark on a voyage through a wormhole, surpassing the limits and boundaries of human space travel, starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and Michael Caine.
