It's no wonder that the "Assassin's Creed" franchise is getting its Hollywood take, especially with it having received acclaim from both fans and critics as an historical fiction, action-adventure video game. A film adaptation will star Michael Fassbender as a Spanish assassin during... well, the Spanish Inquisition of the 15th century. But since the release date was moved from 2015 to an unspecified date in 2016, the wait, señoras y señores, is going to take a little longer.
Fans, however, can find consolation when they experience "Assassin's Creed Unity", due out next month, on their consoles. And to keep the anticipation for the action at an all-time high, Ubisoft released the story trailer for the upcoming game.
Here's the thing, though. The trailer projects a cinematic impression as if it's giving a preview of a summer blockbuster film.
Set in 18th century Paris during the French Revolution, the story trailer, reported Cinema Blend, gives gamers a hint of what they'll be doing (aside from parkour) as Arno Dorian, the game's main character. In the trailer it is revealed that Dorian is thrown into prison, his father was an assassin who was killed when Dorian was still a boy, and was later was taken in and trained by the Brotherhood of Assassins, where he most likely rose through the ranks, very much like Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Ezio Auditore da Firenze in the first two games of the series.
The trailer also shows that the Brotherhood is in some sort of trouble, Dorian is seeking to help his love interest (who seems equally feisty) serve some ice-cold revenge while he himself is in a quest for redemption amidst an atmosphere of betrayal and conspiracy.
The movielike feel of the trailer, of course, is relative and circumstantial, but the narration, dialogue, music, and explosions employed in the trailer, Gamer Headlines noted, all seem to be things that one would expect from a trailer shown before the main attraction in a theater.
As for the game itself, fans will just have to wait and see if it is anywhere as good as the trailer portrays it to be.
"Assassin's Creed Unity" brings the revolutionary spirit of "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" to Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 11.
