After a legendary career that included two championships with the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat, Ray Allen has taken his sweet time in deciding his future in the NBA. But with a few weeks left before the start of the regular season, has Allen finally decided to play for another year? Glenn Moore of Fansided believes that he has and just as many thought, is taking his veteran leadership and clutch shooting to the Cleveland Cavaliers:
Earlier reports of Ray Allen signing with Cavaliers are true. Done deal.
But despite this report, the best three point shooter in the history of the NBA is still a free agent as of Tuesday, league sources told Fox Sports Ohio. Allen, 39, said early in free agency that he still has to decide whether he will continue playing for one more year or ride the sunset and retire. He told reporters in August that he hoped to make a decision in September and now its already October.
"To continue playing, really, the only argument is I can because I'm in great shape," Allen told the Hartford Courant in an interview Aug. 2. "But just because you can doesn't mean you have to. Many people over these last couple of weeks have lobbied for me to continue to play. My argument for not playing is, I have done a significant amount in my career and I appreciate everything that has come my way and as I've gotten older, I'm 39, there are so many things in life I want to be able to do to affect change -- like being around kids full time, which I enjoy."
It is possible that Allen has indeed arrived on a decision to play with LeBron James in Cleveland but has yet to make an official announcement. So far though, renowned figures covering the NBA have yet to confirm that Allen has reached an agreement with the Cavaliers. Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders reveals that Allen has not decided to sign with the Cavs just yet:
I asked a source close to the situation if Ray Allen has decided to sign with the Cavaliers, as has been reported. Source responded: "NO."
It's still possible that Ray Allen will sign with CLE at some point, but the source (who's very close to the situation) says no decision yet
Its also worth noting that the Cavs have not made any official announcement pertaining to an agreement with Allen. And ESPN's Marc Stein says that its not a "done deal" as what Glen Moore has reported.
Think a lot of us expect Ray Allen to wind up in Cleveland but early word this AM is that talk of a commitment or signing TODAY is premature
Is the report on Ray Allen signing to the Cleveland Cavaliers simply another rumor? Or has Allen really reached a decision and wants to play with the Cavs but has yet to make an official announcement yet? We will know soon enough.
