'Marley and Me' sequel to come to television! How will 'Marley' be with the Grogans again after the movie ended?

"Marley and Me" will be having a sequel in the form of a TV series. Events will follow after the end of the film, which means no return for the original Marley, but the Grogan family will find themselves with a new dog.

The successful 2008 film "Marley and Me" is slated for a "sequel," though according to NDTV, it will be made for TV. The sequel, which comes in the form of a series, will be continuing "from the point where the film ended." The article reports that NBC has requested for a pilot and executive producer Jenny Bicks will be writing the script with David Frankel as the director. The article added that the series will have lead characters John and Jenny Grogan returning to Florida with their adolescent sons to help John write for a local newspaper. The family will soon be adopting a stray dog.

Though Marley is dead at the end of the movie, Inquisitr shares that the family will be naming their new dog Marley, which still makes the title "Marley and Me" relevant. The article also explains, "It makes it easier for them since they can use Marley's old leash and tags on her, and the puppy turns out to be just as willful, destructive, and delightful as her original namesake." Deadline also mentions that Marley will be affecting not only the Grogan family, but also their neighbors and nearby dog-owners.

Variety adds that the series will be running for half an hour and will be starting a few years after the movie ended. Bicks is joined by Frankel and Karen Rosenfelt as executive producers under 20th Century Fox TV.

There is no word yet on whether the series will be featuring movie actors Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston.

With the success of "Marley and Me" in theaters, earning it $242 million, the series is highly anticipated. However, critics are wondering how well a show with a dog as a main character will do, as apparently these days dogs are only "supporting characters."
