2014 NBA Trade Rumors: New Orleans Pelicans guard Eric Gordon to to hit the trade block this coming season

By

New Orleans Pelicans guard Eric Gordon might be wearing a different uniform this coming season according to Adam Fromal of Bleacher Report who believes that Gordon is one of first wave of NBA Players who will hit the 2014-15 NBA Trade Block. Ryan Anderson's seamless transition to the small forward position may bring Tyreke Evans back into the back-court rotation and Fromal believes that this could be one of the reasons why the Pelicans would be shopping Gordon this coming season.

And the other reason why the Pelicans would be willing to explore trade options for the 24 year old guard is pretty straight forward: Gordon is no longer happy staying with the team. As reported last summer by Jimmy Smith of The Times-Picayune, Gordon, a restricted free agent at the time, wasn't thrilled about the Hornets matching a four-year offer from the Phoenix Suns:

"As for now, I don't know what's going on. (If the Hornets match) as of right now, I'd be disappointed."

There is no question in Gordon's talent and high ceiling but he isn't just an ideal fit for a Hornets team who wants to contend for a playoff spot this coming season and a team who plans to build around potential superstar big man, Anthony Davis. Gordon is a gifted scored but the Hornets need pieces that would complement Davis and trading Gordon could bring in solid role players that the team needs to reach the next level.

What's more, Gordon has not remained healthy for a whole season with the Pelicans and this has been another strong point on trading him. Per SB Nation:

Gordon has been another question mark for the franchise. He's missed significant time in his first two years of the franchise and is currently averaging a career-low 15.8 points per game. In 2012 he signed a maximum-contract offer sheet with the Phoenix Suns as a restricted free agent but the Pelicans matched the contract.

The Pelicans have been remodeling their roster since parting ways with their All-Star point guard Chris Paul. And unfortunately for Gordon, the team is not going to build around him but on the very promising Anthony Davis. It's not yet certain what the asking price for Gordon would be but expect him to be on the trade block this coming season.
