Mark Zuckerberg has seriously upped his game when it comes to realizing self-improvement goals. Yesterday, the Facebook founder has shared a video of him as a guest speaker at a university question and answer session at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.
The video seemed innocuous enough considering that Zuckerberg is chief of one of the biggest tech companies in the world and is also regarded as an Internet game changer. The curator of the session introduced Zuckerberg to the audience, who are assumed to be students and teachers in the university.
Zuckerberg wrote in his video post, "We discussed connecting the world, Internet.org, innovation and the early days of Facebook."
But any English speaker or native who is a follower of Facebook and of Zuckerberg was most likely shocked with what the latter did after the introduction. Zuckerberg started speaking in Mandarin, which is a native language in China, much to the delight of the audience. The audience continued to cheer the Facebook founder on as he continued to carry the conversation in Mandarin. Except for his inflection, Zuckerberg sounded like a local to netizens.
One commenter said, "Wow, just wow. Speaking Chinese for an entire Q&A is already beyond mind-blowing. But then cracking jokes in Chinese and getting the whole room to erupt in laughter?? That's seriously taking it to a whole new level!"
Washington Post said Zuckerberg's amazing grasp of the foreign language might have signaled the Facebook founder's determination in leading his company. The site said that currently, Facebook is mostly banned in Beijing. However, Bloomberg reported that Facebook has signed a contract for the social network's first office in China early this year. Considering the fact that China is the most attractive market for just about anyone in the business side to break into because of its population numbers, it is to assume that Zuckerberg learning to speak Mandarin in public is one impressive feat.
However, CNN said that Zuckerberg's new language skill isn't that surprising. Recalling a personal vow that he did in 2010, Zuckerberg said that his learning Mandarin is one way to converse to his wife, Priscilla Chan, and her family in their native language.
