Wendy Williams, the executive producer of Liftime's direct to TV biopic of Aaliyah, titled: "Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B", has been promoting the movie frequently and reveals that the biopic will focus more on Aaliyah's life than her music.
In recent interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Williams says that, "I want to hear about R. Kelly. I want to hear about Missy Elliot. I wanna not just hear about R. Kelly. "
She goes on to say, "Don't skate over it. This needs to be a big plot line. I want to know what her father said when 16-year-old Aaliyah brought home 28-year-old man. I want to know what her mother said. I want to know what her brother said. How did Aaliyah get started? And how did this R. Kelly thing affect her career?"
Of course fans were not happy about this and are already saying that the movie just wants to make money out of controversy and not actually give everyone a new perspective or insight on Aaliyah's life, music, and untimely death.
From the start the movie had hit a lot of brick walls, including Aaliyah's family which disapproved of the movie from the start and even hire a lawyer to stop Lifetime from using any of her music, photos, and videos that they own, for the biopic.
The production also had to replace the Zendaya Colem, the actress playing Aaliyah because of schedule conflicts. She was replaced by Alexandra Shipp.
Earlier this August, it was also reported by Billboard that Chattrisse Dolabaille and Izaak Smith have been cast to play as Missy Elliot and Timbaland respectively, who were Aaliyah's collaborators.
In related news, it was also announced by S2SMagazine, that B. Simone will star as Aaliyah in a feature film and is expected to be released late 2015. Aaliyah's uncle, Barry Hankerson is also reported to be involved in this movie and will reportedly use unreleased music of Aaliyah as well.
"Aaliyah: The princess of R&B" will air on November 15 this year, on Lifetime.
