In this year's Halloween edition of "Dancing With The Stars" Season 19, we saw a 90s hunk actor say goodbye to his dancing shoes and his lovely dance partner. Antonio Sabato Jr failed to impress the judges with his Viennese Waltz to ""I Put a Spell on You," even though he had danced with multiple championship winner Cheryl Burke. Mashable said that although there was an improvement in his dancing since the first week, it was not enough for him to save his skin come judging time. The couple only earned a measly 27 for the number.
Carrie Ann Inaba said after the performance that Sabato was disappointing, while grumpy judge Len Goodman said the actor had failed to even start the performance on the right foot, USA Today said.
The oldest contestant in the season managed to overcome expectations of him in his quickstep with partner Peta Murgatroyd. In the video of his practices with the blonde dancer leading to the actual performance, Tommy Chong is seen having a difficult time learning not one, but two dances for Week 7, Wetpaint reported. He even acknowledged his own age, saying that the quickstep was hurting his knees.
However, the comedian impressed the judges, the audience and television viewers. Chong displayed his chops in hold, and pulls off good footwork despite the difficulty of the dance. Moreover, Wetpaint said Chong was appealing to the eyes, which was seconded by the show judges. Judge Julienne Hough said that Chong's quickstep has helped him make his comeback in the competition. For an old man who managed to pull off seven weeks without getting eliminated, this is quite a feat.
Contestants who did well in the show were Bethany Mota and her Paso Doble with Derek Hough, Lea Thompson with her "deliberate and precise" Argentine Tango with partner Artem Chigvintsev, and Alfonso Ribeiro's rumba with Witney Carson. The Wall Street Journal said that the team dances had most of the critics undecisive with the scoring, as Team Itsy Bitsy (Bethany/Derek, Janel/Val, Lea/Artem, Emma/Michael) won the judges over Team Creepy (Alfonso/Witney, Sadie/Mark, Antonio/Cheryl, Tommy/Peta) despite the lack of audience response.
